1. Who we are
GiftPilot ("we", "us", "our") provides the GiftPilot iOS application and the website at giftpilotapp.com. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the app or this site. If you have questions, write to support@giftpilotapp.com.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and (if provided through Sign in with Apple) a name. You may set up a profile with display preferences and gifting style.
Information you put into the app
To make GiftPilot useful, you can voluntarily add details about the people you give gifts to: names, relationship roles (e.g. "mom"), birthdays and anniversaries, interests and hobbies, gifting styles, things to avoid, and per-person budgets. You can also add gift ideas, wishlists, and gift history. This is your data — you control what you put in and you can delete it any time.
Onboarding quiz answers
During onboarding we collect quiz-style preferences (default budget, gifting style, occasions you care about) so the app starts useful from day one.
Device & usage data
We collect basic information about how you use the app — feature taps, crash reports, device type, OS version, and a non-identifying app install ID. This helps us fix bugs and improve the product. We do not collect precise location.
Subscriptions
If you subscribe to GiftPilot Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple. We receive a transaction receipt and the subscription status (active, trial, expired) — we do not see your payment card or full Apple ID.
3. How we use your information
- To run the app — store your people, ideas, budgets, reminders, and gift history.
- To generate personalised gift ideas using AI based on the details you provide.
- To send reminders and notifications you've enabled (birthdays, anniversaries, weekly inspiration, monthly summaries).
- To sync birthdays to a dedicated Apple Calendar if you turn that on.
- To process and validate your subscription.
- To improve the app, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and respond to your support emails.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. AI gift search
When you ask GiftPilot for ideas, we send the relevant inputs (the recipient details and search prompt you've entered) to a third-party AI provider so we can return ideas. We send only what's needed to answer your search. Our AI providers are bound by data processing agreements that prohibit them from training their models on your prompts or storing them beyond what's required to serve the request.
AI-generated suggestions are not endorsements. Always check product details, prices, availability, and safety before purchasing.
5. Sharing & third parties
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party advertising in the app.
We share information only with service providers acting on our behalf, under contract:
- Apple — for sign-in, push notifications, in-app subscriptions, calendar sync, and App Store delivery.
- Cloud hosting & database — to store your account and the data you've added.
- AI providers — to generate gift ideas in response to your searches (see section 4).
- Analytics & crash reporting — privacy-respecting tools that receive non-identifying usage and crash data.
- Email — to send transactional messages (e.g. password resets) and your support replies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a corporate transaction (with notice to you where required).
Wishlist sharing
If you choose to share a wishlist by link, anyone with that link can view it. You can revoke a share link at any time from the app. For collaborative group gift lists, the people you invite can see and claim items on the list.
6. Subscriptions & payments
GiftPilot Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and stores your billing details — we never see your card. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple ID settings. See our Terms of Service for full subscription terms.
7. Children's privacy
GiftPilot is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@giftpilotapp.com and we will delete it.
8. Your rights & choices
- Access & export. You can view all the people, ideas, and gift history you've added directly in the app.
- Edit & delete. You can edit or delete any item, person, or list at any time.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account from inside the app — this permanently removes your profile and the data attached to it. Or email us at support@giftpilotapp.com.
- Notifications. Push notifications are off until you enable them. You can turn them off any time in iOS Settings.
- Tracking. GiftPilot does not use cross-app tracking. iOS App Tracking Transparency does not apply.
- Regional rights. Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/EEA, UK, California) you may have additional rights such as data portability, objection, or "do not sell / share". Email us and we'll honour those rights.
9. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example tax records of subscription transactions). Backups are purged on a rolling basis.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted and audited. No system is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication on your Apple ID.
11. International transfers
GiftPilot is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US (and other countries our service providers operate in). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes we'll post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date above; significant changes will be highlighted in-app or by email.
